Doomed love.

Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.

Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.

Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.

Review:

A hidden truth.

Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.

OK, first of all, with a summary starting with these three lines, how could you NOT think this would be a fabuloso read??

Forgive me Sophie for I have sinned.  What the heck was I thinking??  Waiting so long to read Firelight??  I LOVED this book.  For me, this was a totally new concept - Draki.  Imagine another part of you that is intuitive and natural.  I was surprised at how strongly I felt when her mother tried to squash her Draki side.  The author impressed upon me the importance of maintaining true to yourself and loving who you really are.  Jacinda was constantly looking for acceptance from her family yet she was sometimes scared to show her real self in front of them.

I also enjoyed the dynamics of Jacinda and her twin.  She was constantly trying to downplay her special ability in order to stop outshining her sister.  All things that friends and siblings experience....rivalry, competition and thunder-stealing!

It should also be noted that Sophie Jordan was able to use her romance writing skills to create some pretty steamy scenes between Will and Jacinda.  For those of you who are new to Sophie Jordan's work, she is a veteran when it comes to writing novels.  However, her main titles can be found in the romance section.

As most of you already know, Ms Jordan has already released the cover of her next book - Vanish.  Congrats on another gorgeous cover!  Anyone notice that it is the same model only reversed?  If you haven't read Firelight, you should run out and buy it...but do it before Vanish comes out (you've got until September)...

Curlypow here:  I have to agree with Christinabean, same model reversed, but, different hair colour.  So are we looking at Jacinda's twin here?  (Sorry, can't remember her name.)  Can't wait to read this one and find out.
